SUMMARY:2026 Native Plants Summit
DESCRIPTION:BUY YOUR TICKETNative Yard Makeover:  From Decoration to Wildlife Destination\nThe Garden Club of Jacksonville and Florida Native Plant Society Ixia Chapter proudly present the 2026 Native Plants Summit to highlight the critical role native plants play in building a sustainable habitat for wildlife to thrive and a healthier environment for every living being. \nLearn from Amy Franqui and Stephanie Means how native plants transform additional yards into thriving habitat for birds and butterflies while improving stormwater and reducing maintenance. This session covers intentional design\, native plant swaps\, and practical HOA-aware ways to get started–so you can create a yard that welcomes wildlife and still looks loved. \n—- \nAmy Franqui is a Florida native\, Master Gardener Volunteer\, and a member of the City of Atlantic Beach Environmental Stewardship Committee. Her journey into native plants was originally inspired by reading Bringing Nature Home by Doug Tallamy\, which helped reframe how she saw the role of home landscapes in supporting birds\, pollinators\, and the broader ecosystem. \nAmy is passionate about helping others reimagine what a “well-loved” yard can look like. Through community workshops\, library talks\, Weed Wrangle events\, and hands-on projects\, she shares practical\, approachable ways to replace invasive plants\, reduce lawn\, and design landscapes that balance beauty\, function\, and neighborhood context. Her work bridges science and storytelling\, encouraging residents to see their own yards as part of a larger ecological network. \nStephanie Means grew up as a farm girl in rural Upstate New York where plants and nature have always been a big part of Stephanie’s life. After moving to Jacksonville in 2019\, she became a Master Gardener Volunteer in 2022 and the following year was hired as the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Assistant for Duval County. She is an enthusiastic ambassador for sustainable landscapes\, specializing in teaching residents how small\, intentional changes in their yards can lead to significant positive impacts on Florida’s local water quality and wildlife. For Stephanie\, the highlight of her work is empowering others to see their yards not just as property\, but as a vital part of Florida’s ecosystem. \nBUY YOUR TICKET

SUMMARY:Building a Better Tomorrow: Understanding Extremes of the Changing Climate to Better Protect Our Community
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOWJoin Kathleen Biggins for “Building a Better Tomorrow: Understanding Extremes of the Changing Climate to Better Protect Our Community” presented by the Late Bloomers Garden Club. \nKathleen\, founder of C-Change Conversations\, will talk about climate change in a way that helps people understand the urgency of the issue without inflaming partisan passions. Kathleen and C-Change Conversations does that by educating people about the science and risks of climate change and by framing it not as a political issue\, but as a human one. \nLate Bloomers Garden Club\, which is part of the Garden Club of Jacksonville\, invites #GardenClubJax members to register for this program and learn how to Build a Better Tomorrow. \n$25 for #GardenClubJax members\, includes boxed lunch after the program \nAbout Kathleen Biggins\nKathleen Biggins is the Founder and President of C-Change Conversations\, a national nonprofit dedicated to fostering understanding about the risks of climate change to our economy\, health and security\, and geopolitical stability. In 2014\, Kathleen recognized that climate change was a significant risk but that few people were talking about it because it was seen as such a polarizing and far-off topic. That year she pulled a team together to create C-Change Conversations with the goal of depoliticizing the issue and helping others understand how it might impact them personally. \nKathleen wrote the C-Change Conversations Primer—a non-partisan\, science-based presentation—that has been lauded by both conservative politicians and chief scientists of internationally known climate organizations. The Primer has been presented to a wide range of businesses and associations\, reaching over 19\,000 people in 32 states and internationally. C-Change has received accolades from leaders in government\, finance\, health\, and education\, as well as recognition by the southeastern conference of the World Presidents Organization\, the Financial Executives Networking Group\, the Garden Club of America\, and the Land Trust Alliance. \nKathleen hails from New Orleans and is a graduate of the University of Virginia and attended the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg\, Germany\, as a Rotary Scholar. Prior to founding C-Change\, she had a career in advertising and journalism. She now lives in Princeton with her husband and their dog. \nLearn more at www.c-changeconversations.org. \nREGISTER NOW
