SUMMARY:Building a Better Tomorrow: Understanding Extremes of the Changing Climate to Better Protect Our Community
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOWJoin Kathleen Biggins for “Building a Better Tomorrow: Understanding Extremes of the Changing Climate to Better Protect Our Community” presented by the Late Bloomers Garden Club. \nKathleen\, founder of C-Change Conversations\, will talk about climate change in a way that helps people understand the urgency of the issue without inflaming partisan passions. Kathleen and C-Change Conversations does that by educating people about the science and risks of climate change and by framing it not as a political issue\, but as a human one. \nLate Bloomers Garden Club\, which is part of the Garden Club of Jacksonville\, invites #GardenClubJax members to register for this program and learn how to Build a Better Tomorrow. \n$25 for #GardenClubJax members\, includes boxed lunch after the program \nAbout Kathleen Biggins\nKathleen Biggins is the Founder and President of C-Change Conversations\, a national nonprofit dedicated to fostering understanding about the risks of climate change to our economy\, health and security\, and geopolitical stability. In 2014\, Kathleen recognized that climate change was a significant risk but that few people were talking about it because it was seen as such a polarizing and far-off topic. That year she pulled a team together to create C-Change Conversations with the goal of depoliticizing the issue and helping others understand how it might impact them personally. \nKathleen wrote the C-Change Conversations Primer—a non-partisan\, science-based presentation—that has been lauded by both conservative politicians and chief scientists of internationally known climate organizations. The Primer has been presented to a wide range of businesses and associations\, reaching over 19\,000 people in 32 states and internationally. C-Change has received accolades from leaders in government\, finance\, health\, and education\, as well as recognition by the southeastern conference of the World Presidents Organization\, the Financial Executives Networking Group\, the Garden Club of America\, and the Land Trust Alliance. \nKathleen hails from New Orleans and is a graduate of the University of Virginia and attended the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg\, Germany\, as a Rotary Scholar. Prior to founding C-Change\, she had a career in advertising and journalism. She now lives in Princeton with her husband and their dog. \nLearn more at www.c-changeconversations.org. \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Fun with Flowers: Spring Bouquets
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE YOUR TICKETThis program is being offered at two times: 10 a.m.-noon and 6:30-8:30 p.m. \nJoin Michelle Morgan of Kuhn Flowers to learn how to make fabulous floral arrangements with the bountiful blooms of spring. She will take you step-by-step through the process of creating a gorgeous design\, then provide you the materials to make your own and take it home with you. Use your masterpiece to decorate your home or give it as a gift. \nMichelle Morgan’s floral journey began when she was a young girl studying in the United Kingdom. After seven years of hard work\, she gained eight different government floral qualifications. Michelle then moved on to achieve two of the highest floristry qualifications in Europe. From there\, she started teaching at a local university\, training more than 4\,000 students at all levels and helping them gain some of the most prestigious floral qualifications in Europe. Michelle has been lucky to work with some of the best floral designers and educators across Europe. She’s even had the privilege of designing florals for the British royal family and more recently the president of the United States. \nIn 2008\, Michelle and her family made the move to the United States. She bought a busy flower store\, and Michelle’s love for the industry only grew. Over the next few years\, Michelle worked for a major floral wholesaler\, overseeing millions of dollars in sales. In 2013\, she was inducted into AIFD\, making her one of the few people in the world with the most prestigious floristry qualifications from both Europe and the U.S. \nIn 2016\, Michelle and her husband bought Kuhn Flowers—one of the largest flower stores in the United States. Since then\, Michelle has opened three more stores and employs more than 65 full-time employees. She credits her success to her passion for teaching and learning and encourages people to step out of their comfort zone and follow their floral dreams. \nFun with Flowers is an educational outreach program that is open to the public. SUMMARY:Combined Circles: An Artist's Exploration
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOWREGISTRATION BEGINS JANUARY 2\, 2025 \nJoin visual artist Kathy Stark for a special visual presentation about Jacksonville’s parks and preserves featured in her book\, “The Wilderness of North Florida’s Parks” and her recent series of WPA-era-inspired posters. She will share aspects most people don’t know\, personal tips\, and interesting insights into her paintings. Kathy’s book will also be available to purchase\, and she will sign copies after the program. \nA Jacksonville native and resident\, Kathy Stark specializes in watercolor and oil painting. Her favorite subject matter is her natural Florida surroundings\, which she explores by hiking\, kayaking\, canoeing\, mountain biking\, and dog walking. She created a series of large even monumental watercolors of her area’s amazing wild park system for her book and traveling exhibit titled “The Wilderness of North Florida’s Parks.” A unique blend of art and education\, the family-friendly book and exhibit serves as a tribute and guide to the great unspoiled stretches of the North Florida region. Kathy’s work has been collected both privately and corporately and has been shown in museums and galleries in Northeast Florida and beyond. \nKathy attended the Bartram School\, now part of the Bolles School. In 1985\, she graduated from Furman University with a BA in studio arts and then attended the University of Florida for post-baccalaureate studies. \nFollowing college\, Kathy traveled for four years in the Southeast working as set designer\, art director\, and production illustrator for the motion picture industry. Kathy later painted\, sculpted\, and designed for a company creating environments for entertainment attractions\, museums\, and zoos. Twenty years ago\, Kathy resumed her full-time pursuit as a professional fine artist. Breaking out from her long preferred medium of oils\, she began exploring watercolors for the first time since college and has a newfound energy and enthusiasm with this medium. \nCombined Circles is an occasional program that allows members of garden circles to meet at the Garden Club of Jacksonville for fellowship and camaraderie. \nThe Garden Club appreciates all Circle members registering for this event\, so we know how many chairs and refreshments to provide. If you need assistance registering\, please call 904-355-4224. \nCircle Presidents: Please reserve space for the number of people attending your Circle’s meeting after the program by calling 904-355-4224. \nFree for #GardenClubJax members | $5 for nonmembers \n\nAll ticket sales are final and nonrefundable \nSponsorship Opportunities\nA sponsor of this Combined Circles program receives: \n\nRecognition on our event pages\nRecognition in our email marketing to more than 6\,000 contacts\nRecognition on our social media channels\nRecognition on event slideshow\nRecognition in our blog post after the program\n\nAnnual sponsors also receive: \n\nVerbal recognition at all Combined Circles programs\nSponsor table at all Combined Circles programs\n\nIf you have questions about sponsorship\, please email info@gardenclubjax.org or call 904-355-4224. \n\nREGISTER NOW
