SUMMARY:Fun with Flowers: Color Basics
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE YOUR TICKETThe practice of color theory isn’t new—it dates all the way back to Aristotle. Color theory is a set of principles used to create harmonious color combinations pleasing to the eye and senses. It is the perfect blend of science and aesthetics—just like flowers themselves! By applying a few color theory basics\, everyday decorating can come alive. \nJoin Alicia Palm and Kari Strate of Daughters Flower Shop to learn how to design a floral centerpiece using a color blocking method. This technique will turn your flower arranging from everyday to extraordinary! They’ll take you step-by-step through the process of creating an arrangement\, then provide the materials to design your own. You’ll leave with a creation you can give as a gift or display at home. \nAlicia and Kari are Jacksonville natives who landed in New York City to pursue careers in design—Alicia in floral and event design and Kari in fashion. While the pair never met in NYC\, they each moved back to Jacksonville and a chance meeting and collaboration on a local wedding encouraged the pair to partner officially. In December 2019\, Alicia and Kari opened Daughters Flower Shop\, a high-end florist in Five Points\, bringing together boutique floral design services\, specialty grab-and-go flowers\, a wide-ranging selection of distinctive houseplants\, and an exquisitely curated selection of home goods in a exciting and modern retail space. \nFun with Flowers is an educational outreach program that is open to the public. Founded by the Garden Club of Jacksonville more than 30 years ago\, Fun With Flowers has served as a model for similar programs offered throughout the United States. Attendees learn the latest professional design techniques\, then create breathtaking floral creations during the hands-on portion of the program. \nThis program will be offered in-person at the Garden Club. Masks are optional for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 but are recommended to help protect everyone. Those who are unvaccinated should wear masks; the Garden Club appreciates your cooperation. \nBecome a member today and get a BIG discount! \n$30 for Garden Club Member Ballroom Ticket \n$40 for Nonmember Ballroom Ticket \nPURCHASE YOUR TICKET

SUMMARY:Combined Circles: Blue and Gold Star Markers
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOWJoin Garden Club of Jacksonville and Wildflower Circle member Sam Runyon for a presentation about Blue Star and Gold Star Marker Memorials. \nThe Blue Star Program honors all men and women that serve in the United States Armed Services. This program began with the planting of 8\,000 dogwood trees by the New Jersey Council of Garden Clubs in 1944 as a living memorial to veterans of World War II. In 1945\, the National Council of State Garden Clubs (now National Garden Clubs) adopted this program and began a Blue Star Highway system that covers thousands of miles across the United States\, Alaska\, and Hawaii. Blue Star Memorial Highway Markers were placed along the way. The Blue Star was adopted because it had become an icon in World War II and was seen on flags and banners in homes for sons and daughters away at war as well as in churches and businesses. \nAmerica’s Gold Star Families is a nonprofit organization created to provide support to those who have lost a loved one in service to our country through the United States Armed Forces. Their mission is to offer honor\, hope\, and healing through remembering fallen heroes by coming together. The name Gold Star came from the custom of families of service members hanging a banner called a service flag in the window of their homes. The service flag had a star for each family member in the United States Armed Forces. Blue Stars represented living service members while a Gold Star represented those who had lost their lives. NGC clubs work with Gold Star Families to honor our fallen heroes with Gold Star Markers. \nThe Garden Club of Jacksonville is currently working on refurbishing an existing Blue Star Memorial on Roosevelt Boulevard near Park Street. \nCombined Circles is an occasional program that allows members of garden circles to meet at the Garden Club of Jacksonville for fellowship and camaraderie. \nThis program will be offered in-person at the Garden Club and simultaneously on Zoom. Masks are required for those attending the event in-person to help protect the speaker. \nFree for Garden Club members | $5 for nonmembers \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Designer of Distinction: Ashley Woodson Bailey
DESCRIPTION:Join acclaimed floral designer\, photographer\, and artist\, Ashley Woodson Bailey for the 2021 Designer of Distinction at the Garden Club of Jacksonville. A self-taught photographer\, Ashley’s signature “florography” art prints launched in 2014. Her eponymous brand naturally expanded to include wallpapers\, fabrics\, and limited-edition products as her desire to live among the flowers grew. Haley is the Governance Chair of the Garden Club of Jacksonville’s Board of Trustees\, a member of the Late Bloomers Garden Club\, and a 2019 National Garden Club of America Medalist for outstanding achievement in the field of floral design education. \nFlower shows have been around for hundreds of years and are popular forms of entertainment and education for exhibitors and visitors. A flower show’s rules and guidelines are presented in a schedule with the various subject divisions consisting of classes or categories of competition. \nIn the floral design division of a flower show\, the class titles become the source of inspiration and interpretation.. The class description may also specify a particular design type\, such table design. During this program\, Haley will emphasize how the class title was interpreted. A floral design judge\, exhibitor\, and educator\, Haley will demonstrate designs from actual flower shows\, explaining concept and interpretation. She will include insight into design styles and mechanics for creating contemporary designs and explain how understanding the principles and elements of design serve to guide exhibitors in their floral designs. \nRegister today for this Zoom program at 10 a.m. Thursday\, March 11. SUMMARY:Flower Show Series: Designing the Perfect Table
DESCRIPTION:Join floral designer Laura Haley as she demonstrates eye-popping table settings as examples of what can be entered in flower shows. The emphasis of most flower shows is to showcase horticultural specimens\, floral design creativity\, and conservation or environmental stewardship. A flower show’s rules and guidelines are presented in a schedule with the various subject divisions consisting of classes or categories of competition. \nIn the floral design division of a flower show\, the class titles become the source of inspiration and interpretation.. The class description may also specify a particular design type\, such table design. During this program\, Haley will demonstrate the difference between functional and exhibition table classes that one might see at a flower show. \nRegister today for this Zoom program at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday\, February 9. This virtual program is free\, but you must register. Once you do\, we’ll send you the link\, so you can join the meeting. \nLearn more about the Garden Club’s virtual programs here. \nFREE \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Horticulture Corner: Vertical Gardening
DESCRIPTION:Learn how vertical gardening is the most sustainable way to grow your own produce in the convenience of your own home. \nJoAnne Krestul began growing vertically six years ago\, and providing her family with good nutrition with the ease of aeroponic gardening has truly become her passion. Aeroponic garden systems grow a wide variety of fruits\, vegetables\, herbs\, and flowers without the learning curve or time commitment of traditional gardening. This type of gardening system grows plants with 90 percent less water\, 90 percent less space\, and only uses water and nutrients rather than soil. Krestul will share how easy the vertical garden system is to assemble\, how it works\, and the many foods you can enjoy grown conveniently and sustainably on your own patio\, deck\, or inside your home. \nThis program will be offered in-person at the Garden Club and simultaneously on Zoom. Seating at the Garden Club is limited\, so register today. COVID-19 health and safety guidelines will be practiced during this event. Seating in the Ballroom will be socially distanced\, and attendees must wear masks throughout the entire program. \nFree and open to the public \nREGISTER NOW
