Children and their families join this national effort to keep the outdoors clean. As a group\, children and their parents will safely pick up litter along Post Street and Riverside Avenue. This special Budding Gardeners starts at the Garden Club at 9 a.m. and continues until 11 a.m. Refreshments will be served at the Garden Club at 11 a.m. \n\n\nAccording to National CleanUp Day\, many studies show that someone will pick up litter is if they witness someone else picking up litter. That’s because peer group norms are more powerful than incentives\, and together\, they can provide impressive behavioral change. Most people want to do the right thing; all they need is a little encouragement or incentive. The leadership of National CleanUp Day believes people are naturally responsible; if we encourage them to care for their favorite places\, to pick up after themselves and others\, then our outdoor spaces will become self-sufficient\, clean\, and more enjoyable. \nEveryone participating in Budding Gardeners: CleanUp Jax is required to wear closed shoes and protective clothing. \nBudding Gardeners is aimed at children in grades 1-6 to discover gardening\, conservation\, and wildlife through interactive programs\, crafts\, and outdoor projects. Lindsay died on May 18\, 2021\, but she personally oversaw the design of the space. She hoped her donation would encourage others to invest in the Garden Club’s landscape redesign plans. \nEnjoy small bites catered and celebrate with punch or a mimosa! \nThis program will be offered in-person at the Garden Club. Experts from University of Florida Entomology and Nematology Department share their knowledge and will even have a few examples to show. Plant a flower that will attract friendly spiders to your yard and take it home to watch it grow. Then create a craft that helps you remember which spiders are friendly. You can even come dressed as a spider! \n\nBudding Gardeners is aimed at children in grades 1-6 to discover gardening\, conservation\, and wildlife through interactive programs\, crafts\, and outdoor projects. Children and their parents or caregivers collaborate during a morning of healthy and fun activities. A snack in sealed packaging will be served. \n\nCOVID-19 health and safety guidelines will be practiced during this event. We require guests to wear masks indoors at all times\, but we plan to hold much of this event outside with lots of space for physical distancing. Seating and work stations will be socially distanced.
