DESCRIPTION:VOLUNTEER NOW\n\nVOLUNTEER SIGNUPS BEGIN JULY 22\, 2024 \nJoin the Garden Club of Jacksonville and Riverside Avondale Preservation on National CleanUp Day. Children and their families join this national effort to keep the outdoors clean. As a group\, children and their parents will safely pick up litter along Post Street and Riverside Avenue. This special Budding Gardeners starts at the Garden Club at 9 a.m. and continues until 11 a.m. Refreshments will be served at the Garden Club at 11 a.m. \n\n\nAccording to National CleanUp Day\, many studies show that someone will pick up litter is if they witness someone else picking up litter. That’s because peer group norms are more powerful than incentives\, and together\, they can provide impressive behavioral change. Most people want to do the right thing; all they need is a little encouragement or incentive. The leadership of National CleanUp Day believes people are naturally responsible; if we encourage them to care for their favorite places\, to pick up after themselves and others\, then our outdoor spaces will become self-sufficient\, clean\, and more enjoyable. \nEveryone participating in Budding Gardeners: CleanUp Jax is required to wear closed shoes and protective clothing. \n\nBudding Gardeners is aimed at children in grades 1-6 to discover gardening\, conservation\, and wildlife through interactive programs\, crafts\, and outdoor projects. Come to the Garden Club of Jacksonville’s Luminaria Festival for Homegrown & Handmade\, a pop-up shop  of vendors that sell homegrown or handmade items. \nCelebrate Riverside Avondale Preservation Luminaria Night with a party at the Garden Club of Jacksonville and luminaria tours by Go Tuk’n. Take in the view of the luminaria from the front lawn of the Garden Club while you listen to holiday music\, sip a beverage\, nosh on small bites\, and play lawn games. Visit our craft table to make holiday decorations. \nVisit vendors selling plants\, garden-produced goods\, honey\, artwork\, jewelry\, handcrafts\, and much more. If you are interested in being a vendor at this event\, please email info@gardenclubjax.org. \nFree and open to the public \nGo Tuk’n Tour Tickets on Sale Soon\nCatch a tour from Go Tuk’n and enjoy an open-air ride through the lights of Riverside and Avondale. Each Tuk Tuk seats six. Go Tuk’n will also run its Tuk’n Bus this year. Tickets are free for children ages 3 and younger\, but they will need to sit on an adult’s lap. \nCurrent Garden Club members will receive a $5 discount on each ticket.
