SUMMARY:Budding Gardeners: Lettuce Plant a Salad
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE YOUR SPACE\nThe struggle to get children to eat their vegetables is a familiar one for many parents. Growing your own veggies can be a great way to get children excited about eating vegetables. Digging\, planting\, and watering are great hands-on activities\, and children can get the same satisfaction and pride as adults in eating something home-grown. \nChildren and their families learn how delicious—and nutritious—a home-grown salad can be! Members of the Wildflower Garden Circle of the Garden Club of Jacksonville share tips for growing your own lettuce\, tomatoes\, carrots\, and more. \nChildren will plant seedlings of several different kinds of vegetables in a pot to take home and grow! Then they’ll sample a delicious salad full of ingredients that can be grown here in Jacksonville. \nBudding Gardeners is aimed at children in grades 1-6 to discover gardening\, conservation\, and wildlife through interactive programs\, crafts\, and outdoor projects. Children and their parents or caregivers collaborate during a morning of healthy and fun activities. \nEach registration includes one parent and child. \nThe program is free for members and only $5 for nonmembers\, but space is limited. Registration is required\, so we know how many supplies to provide. Please call 904-355-4224 if your child cannot attend. \nBecome a member today and get a BIG discount! \n\n\nFree for Garden Club members | $5 for nonmembers \n\nGreat volunteer opportunity: Sign up here! \nRESERVE YOUR SPACE

SUMMARY:Budding Gardeners: CleanUp Jax
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE YOUR SPACE\n\nJoin the Garden Club of Jacksonville and Riverside Avondale Preservation on National CleanUp Day. Children and their families join this national effort to keep the outdoors clean. As a group\, children and their parents will safely pick up litter along Post Street and Riverside Avenue. This special Budding Gardeners starts at the Garden Club at 9 a.m. and continues until 11 a.m. Refreshments will be served at the Garden Club at 11 a.m. \n\n\nAccording to National CleanUp Day\, many studies show that someone will pick up litter is if they witness someone else picking up litter. That’s because peer group norms are more powerful than incentives\, and together\, they can provide impressive behavioral change. Most people want to do the right thing; all they need is a little encouragement or incentive. The leadership of National CleanUp Day believes people are naturally responsible; if we encourage them to care for their favorite places\, to pick up after themselves and others\, then our outdoor spaces will become self-sufficient\, clean\, and more enjoyable. \nEveryone participating in Budding Gardeners: CleanUp Jax is required to wear closed shoes and protective clothing. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but please register in advance\, so we know how many people to expect. \n\n\nGreat volunteer opportunity: Sign up here! \n\nFind other National CleanUp Day events in Riversdie-Avondale here. \n\nRESERVE YOUR SPACE
