Fun with Flowers: Color Basics

PURCHASE YOUR TICKET

The practice of color theory isn’t new—it dates all the way back to Aristotle. Color theory is a set of principles used to create harmonious color combinations pleasing to the eye and senses. It is the perfect blend of science and aesthetics—just like flowers themselves! By applying a few color theory basics, everyday decorating can come alive.

Join Alicia Palm and Kari Strate of Daughters Flower Shop to learn how to design a floral centerpiece using a color blocking method. This technique will turn your flower arranging from everyday to extraordinary! They’ll take you step-by-step through the process of creating an arrangement, then provide the materials to design your own. You’ll leave with a creation you can give as a gift or display at home.

Alicia and Kari are Jacksonville natives who landed in New York City to pursue careers in design—Alicia in floral and event design and Kari in fashion. While the pair never met in NYC, they each moved back to Jacksonville and a chance meeting and collaboration on a local wedding encouraged the pair to partner officially. In December 2019, Alicia and Kari opened Daughters Flower Shop, a high-end florist in Five Points, bringing together boutique floral design services, specialty grab-and-go flowers, a wide-ranging selection of distinctive houseplants, and an exquisitely curated selection of home goods in a exciting and modern retail space.

Fun with Flowers is an educational outreach program that is open to the public. Founded by the Garden Club of Jacksonville more than 30 years ago, Fun With Flowers has served as a model for similar programs offered throughout the United States. Attendees learn the latest professional design techniques, then create breathtaking floral creations during the hands-on portion of the program.

This program will be offered in-person at the Garden Club. Masks are optional for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 but are recommended to help protect everyone. Those who are unvaccinated should wear masks; the Garden Club appreciates your cooperation.
