Children and their families learned about the important role monarch butterflies play in their gardens and throughout the world at Budding Gardeners: Monarchs & Moms on May 14.

The program, sponsored by the Garden Divas Circle, featured a short introduction to butterfly vocabulary and monarch biology, and the opportunity to see monarch caterpillars, a chrysalis, and use a microscope to examine a variety of butterfly eggs. There were then three activities for children:

  • Planting milkweed seeds to take home and attract monarchs
  • Crafting a handmade card
  • Story time with a book about butterfly migration

After the activities, families enjoyed snacks in the Ballroom.
