On October 17 Irene Woodworth, joined by Lauren Baxter with her own work, gave a demonstration of floral design using seasonal pumpkins and gourds. Irene showed guests several methods of using real and false gourds that were displayed using various items such as pedestals or a driftwood sculpture. Guests could use what they learned to decorate your own home or to give as a gift to family and friends for the Fall season–easy as carving a pumpkin!
Some of the techniques Irene advised were using an ice cream scoop to scoop out the fibrous strands and seeds inside of a pumpkin, and using oasis foam placed inside the carved opening to hold your flowers. While a Styrofoam gourd might be too hard to fully carve it can still be a beautiful addition to a floral arrangement if you set oasis foam on a shallowly carved groove on top of the gourd.
