Artist and Garden Club member Mindy Hawkins shared her fascination with birds—real and imagined—through her exquisite gourd sculptures at this program on November 10.
Hawkins discussed her artistic process of creating these breathtaking creatures using gourds as her canvas. For thousands of years, artists from cultures around the world have engraved, carved, and dyed gourds. The types of carving and embellishments to these gourds are as diverse as the applications and the cultures from which they came. Hawkins’ original designs capture the freedom and spirit of the designs of these early artisans.
This program was be offered in-person at the Garden Club and simultaneously on Zoom. Seating in the Ballroom was be socially distanced, and attendees must wore masks throughout the entire program.
