Bonnie Melin of Ruby Reds Floral & Garden used various foliages to create stunning designs at Fun with Flowers: Gorgeous Greens on March 10.

Melin took those in attendance step-by-step through the process of creating an arrangement, then provided the materials to design their own.

Melin is a Wisconsin native living in Florida for the past 12 years. She earned a degree in horticulture from the University of Minnesota and has been designing flowers for weddings and events for 20 years. She got her start growing her own flowers at a very young age and used those blooms to create her very first bridal bouquet. She now has an extensive collection of flowering and foliage plants at her home in the Avondale neighborhood. Some of the greens used in her presentation will be from her own yard.

Fun with Flowers is an educational outreach program that is open to the public. Founded by the Garden Club of Jacksonville more than 30 years ago, Fun With Flowers has served as a model for similar programs offered throughout the United States. Attendees learn the latest professional design techniques, then create breathtaking floral creations during the hands-on portion of the program.
