On September 7 The Garden Club of Jacksonville had a blast at 2024 Galaxy Fest, organized by ScienceSIS and Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park!
#GardenClubJax brought a fun windsock craft for children to make, along with facts about how Florida winds can affect gardens.
Jacksonville has an Extreme Wind Factor® risk based on the projected likelihood and speed of hurricane, tornado, or severe storm winds. The average maximum
wind speeds in Jacksonville are higher now than they were 30 years ago, and 82 percent of homes in Jacksonville have at least some risk.
- Plant a living windbreak
- Erect a woven artificial windbreak
- Think carefully about where you plant
- Give tall plants additional support
- Tidy your garden before winds arrive
- Cover small plants with cloches
