Amanda Mahoney of Cultivate discussed the basics of houseplant care at Horticulture Corner: Houseplant Parenthood on December 1. She covered how to choose the best houseplants for your lifestyle and unique space and ways to care for some of the most common varieties.
Attendees gained confidence to help their plants thrive with tips on watering, choosing the correct type of soil and pot, plant hygiene, and treating the most common pests. Mahoney sold plants, locally made pots, and other items from Cultivate after the program.
Mahoney works at Cultivate, an eco-friendly shop in Riverside specializing in houseplants and U.S.-made items for the garden, home, and child. Mahoney studied sustainability education in college and focused on how to help people reconnect with nature. She sees caring for houseplants as a wonderful way to do that.
This program was offered in-person at the Garden Club and simultaneously on Zoom. COVID-19 health and safety guidelines were practiced during this event, including socially distanced seating in the Ballroom and attendees wearing masks throughout the entire program.
