The Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society adopted Native Park #1 in 2010 as part of Jacksonville’s Friends of the Park program to carry out the park’s original purpose and advance the mission of the Florida Native Plant Society. Ixia Chapter volunteers have spent many Saturdays digging up invasive plants and planting 138 native species to add to the 37 native species. Freeman shared the history and future of the park along with its benefit to the neighborhood, impact on the environment, and opportunities for education.
